Send Your First Message

Send your first push or web push notification to a test group.

This tutorial is a version of the Message Composer Tutorial, reduced to the options and settings relevant to sending your first push or web push notification. See also: Message and Composer Types and Composer Overview.

 Note

If you are sending your first web notification, you can instead follow the Web Push Notification Tutorial, making sure to select your test group in the Audience step.

  1. Open your project from the dashboard.
  2. Click Create and select the Message composer.
  3. Select Test Users, choose your test group, and click Content in the progress header.
     Note

You have the option to modify which channels are included in your audience, but since this is a new project configured for a single channel, a single mobile app channel or Web Browser should already be enabled.

  4. Click the pane for Push Notification and click Continue.
     Note

If you are sending to the Web Browser or Windows channel, you will not see a selection screen. You will instead skip to the Content step.

  5. Enter the text that will display in your message, then click Delivery in the progress header. A preview will display as you type.
  6. Click Send Now, then click Review & Send in the progress header.
  7. Review the device preview and message summary. Click the arrows to page through the various previews. The channel and display type dynamically update in the dropdown menu above. You can also select a preview directly from the dropdown menu.
  8. Click Send Message at the bottom of the window.

If all has been configured correctly, you just sent your first push or web push notification! Because the message was sent to Test Users, you should see the push notification appear on the mobile device or web browser for the users defined in your selected test group. If this is not the case, review the steps in Add Your Channel ID To a Test Group and reattempt this tutorial.
